The Southern Command Gold Trophy

This Sunday is the running of the Southern Command Gold Trophy in Pune.

The Southern Command Day, often referred to as the glamorous day of the season, sees the Army brass in full attendance, and the G-o-C in C, the affable Lt.Gen. Pradeep Khanna, will be present in full regalia, to do the honours. Upgraded to Graded status and to a terms race from its original listed status as a Class I handicap, the race has a strong ten horse field competing for the 1 million purse. The race day will be preceeded by a grand lunch hosted by the Chairman and Committee of the Club, in honour of the local military authorities. An Army Band will play both at lunch and during the races. The winner of the race takes away the Trophy & a winning purse of Rs. 6,10,500.

The evening before Southern Command Day will see some of the country’s top models strut their stuff on the ramp, as four top end designers will bring the rather staid ball room of the Turf Club alive with a high glitz fashion show being presented by Rudraksh and Prive, before an exclusive audience of over 250. Being held indoors instead of race day as the monsoon could well dampen an outdoor racing event, it will bring fashion at its best to a select gathering of Club members and invitees of the presenters.

Another added feature of the day will be The Prive Trophy for 3 years old maiden horses which is being sponsored by the Tata Group affiliate. It has 19 runners who will fight it out for the honours.

The added attraction of the day will be Rs. 10,00,000 added to the Jackpot Pool collection, Rs. 3,00,000 added to the Super Jackpot collection, Rs. 50,000 each added to the Tanala Pool collection of the 6th & 7th Race & last but not the least Rs. 20,000 each will be added to the Forecast Pool collections of all the races to be held on Sunday.

The September Handicap is the attraction for the races to be held on Saturday. It has 7 starters & the winner will take away the Trophy & a handsome winning purse of Rs. 2,46,240.

So enjoy the weekend at the Pune Racecourse where Racing & Glamour go hand in hand.
